StockCharts review 2026: browser charting with real-time TSX data

Our score: 8.6/10

StockCharts.com has offered browser-based technical charts since 1999, from Redmond, Washington. It ranks sixth overall but first on a criterion many of our readers care about: it is the only platform in our six that sells official real-time TSX and TSX-V data. For a Canadian investor who charts stocks and ETFs rather than futures, that can outweigh everything ranked above it. We used it on the free level first, then on the paid trial with the Canadian feed switched on.

What we like

  • Official real-time TSX and TSX-V data for $9.95/mo
  • Runs in any browser, with iOS and Android apps
  • Free level, then a first month free on paid plans
  • Up to 500 saved scans and 500 price alerts on Extra and PRO
  • Price history back to 1900 on PRO

Drawbacks

  • Real-time Canadian data costs $9.95/mo on top of membership
  • Data add-ons are billed monthly and are non-refundable
  • Free level shows ads and delayed non-US data
  • Market list covers stocks, ETFs and indexes only

The TSX data question

Most platforms in this ranking leave Canadian data to your broker. StockCharts sells it directly: the Canada Real-Time add-on carries official TSX and TSX-V prices for $9.95 a month, and the US (NYSE and NASDAQ) and UK (LSE) feeds cost the same. Each add-on is billed monthly and is non-refundable, so switch one on when you need live prices rather than by default. On the free level, Canadian quotes are delayed. Our guide to market data fees in Canada compares this with the other routes.

Plans and the free level

Basic costs $19.95 a month, Extra $29.95 and PRO $49.95, and paying annually gets you a 13th month free. The free level is free in the real sense but tight: ads, three indicators and three overlays per chart, one ChartList and one scan. New members get the first month free on a trial that starts at the Extra level. Cancel inside that month and you are not billed.

Scans and alerts

The paid tiers mostly raise limits rather than add new kinds of tools. Extra and PRO allow up to 500 saved scans and 500 price alerts, plus 250 advanced alerts, and a ChartList can hold up to 500 charts. Scans can run on a schedule. Extra saves up to 50 multi-chart layouts, and PRO extends price history back to 1900, which is handy for long-cycle work on indexes.

Where it falls short

StockCharts is a charting and scanning service. Its market list stops at stocks, ETFs and indexes, so futures traders should look at NinjaTrader, and anyone who wants to automate a strategy is better served by MultiCharts. Support runs through the help centre, a chat page and a contact form, with no phone line listed.

Bottom line

StockCharts is the most practical starting point on our list for Canadian stock investors. Nothing else here gives you official real-time TSX quotes for under $30 a month all in: Basic at $19.95 plus the $9.95 feed. Its sixth place reflects what it leaves out rather than anything it does badly. Traders who need futures or automated strategies will outgrow it; long-term investors may never need to.
